What changed in each version, from the first stable version onwards. The newest is at the top. You can always get it from Download.

1.2.0 — 28 September 2026

Photo editing, much extended. Rotate, mirror and straighten photos that were scanned at an angle. Click background colours that should go as well (the card around an old portrait). A thorough background removal that also works on old black-and-white and sepia photos, with a progress bar. Two auto tones: one for black-and-white and yellowed photos, a gentler one for colour photos. Brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth, sharpening, noise and dust, black-and-white. Previews are a lot faster.
The same tools are now in the Photos tab too, with the chosen rectangle as the crop.
In the Photos tab a new photo can be saved straight away, without a rectangle, as a portrait, memorial card, gravestone or historical document of one person. Background removal is off by default.
Relationships by marriage also when the marriage is further up, at an ancestor, such as a grandmother who remarried.
Places: every place in the world with more than 500 inhabitants (was 1,000), and the postcodes of 122 countries.
The files side panel shows the parent folders and the subfolders, and two columns of photos on a wide screen.
Fixed: on the Map tab the map came in front of an opened photo.
A portable version as a ZIP: unzip and start, from a USB stick too; the settings stay in that folder.

Edit a photo: click a photo of a person to crop it, remove the background or correct the colours. The result becomes a new photo; the original is always kept.
Relationships are also found through a partner (in-laws), and it says clearly that it is by marriage.
Files side panel: pick a folder and drag the photos onto the right person.
Faces and backgrounds use all processor cores; the About window shows what the calculations run on.

At start-up FamilyTree offers the file you opened last, with a list of the last ten and the choice of another file.

Adding a photo to a person always goes through the Photos tab: cropped, optionally without background, with the original kept and the life stage set.

The first stable version. The file format is fixed: GEDCOM 7, with its own additions described on the GEDCOM page. What you save now, every later version can read.
Everything listed under features: people and families, photo tagging with face recognition, places on an offline map, ancestor and descendant charts as PDF, asking family for information, validation and merging.
